bridesmaid traditions

We’re living in a country that truly is a melting pot, not just of skin colors and cultures, but of religions, too.  It’s more and more common to attend a wedding ceremony in which two religions are represented.  Many bridesmaid traditionscouples are combining their families and their faiths by, for example, inviting a minister and a rabbi to officiate.  They could pull traditions from both religions and include a Christian hymn and the Jewish chuppah.

If you’re a bridesmaid in a wedding that will involve customs you’re not familiar with, it’s best to ask the bride for more information on what to expect during the ceremony.  In some faiths, the service can last for an hour or more, so you’d want comfortable shoes.  Other religions require participants to kneel, so you’d need a dress that will accommodate the ceremony rituals.  The guests will often look to the wedding party to lead by example so you should be prepared.   It’s also a good idea to encourage the wedding officiant to review your roles at the rehearsal.

Weddings celebrate the joining of two people and their families.  For many couples, religion plays a vital part in the wedding weekend and that offers you a unique opportunity to learn more about the bride and groom’s traditions.  So rejoice in it!
