SEX and the pretty

I think I'm one of the few people in modern America without HBO but I've still managed to catch enough episodes of "Sex And The City" to know the storylines and really enjoy Carrie & company. So while I'm on a family vacation right now, I decided to catch a matinee of the new SATC movie based on the megahit series.

My mother-in-love (we thought "in-law" sounds too much like "outlaw") is a huge fan of the show. It's her TV version of comfort food to indulge when she's home from work on a sick day -- "I watch it and forget I don't feel well," she laughed. She's been eagerly anticipating the film's release so we went on a girls' date to the movies. Unfortunately we were too late (and the line was too long) to grab any popcorn before the previews finish. Oh well, that's just one day sooner I can fit into a smaller dress size, right?!

I promise not to give any spoiler information but it's no secret there's a wedding in the movie and Carrie's the bride. That means, her three best buds would be her bridesmaids. I was incredibly curious to see how the fashionista would dress her righthand women... and they looked fantastic! Each woman wore a solid colored dress -- one in black, another in blue, and the third in red. Each dress was, of course, fashionably unique but not so much as to draw attention from the star: the bride.

This is not an unusual wedding trend right now. We've seen the gorgeous spectrum of styles and colors on the Lela Rose sketches for the recent wedding of First Daughter, Jenna Bush.

As you'd expect, the movie is heavy on the fabulous fashions but it's mostly about phenomenal friends. I have to admit, I cried -- several times -- at the very funny moments, and at the surprisingly touching scenes. I really, really enjoyed the movie!

So now there are thousands of rabid -- er, "loyal" -- fans of SATC who are anxiously awaiting the DVD release to watch -- and pause -- to catch everything they missed during their first screening. So if you have a bride who thinks she's a Carrie clone, start planning a "Sex And The City" themed bachelorette party or bridal shower. If she wants to stay in, you can stir up a batch of cosmos and watch the movie on DVD or episodes from the previous seasons.

But if the bride wants a night on the town, then slip on a pair of Manolos or Jimmy Choos (or any stylish pair of stilettos as an homage to the shoe gods), put on a slinky dress and find your local hot spots to dine & dish. Then, you can all get together for a slumber party, change into PJs and find your inner goddess while watching the movie or episode DVDs... hello lover!
